Marshall, 1942 20. General Account Jan 7 p.m. out Cacagnatipe, Dept Morazan, El Salvador Caprimulgus vociferus from side of road in coffee cleared area. After dark called for owls in grove of pine pine - heard none - heard about 5 Cicadab virgata in oak forests & coll. one. No Aras Otus head in oaks. no moon. Jan 8 am clear weather Hunted across finca to west. Ran into 2 large mixed flocks both on sunny ridges jay woodpeckers orioles flycatchers tanagers robins & small woodpeckers (not Geophonus nor Phoeocastes). Also 2 groups of G. toncaus of about 5 or 6 each. No birds heard in large untouched treet of oaks on a north-facing slope but flock of jays & *Robins at edge giving alarm notes at presence of a hawk - looked like a falcon - brown wings with black margin just glimpsed it as flew thru dense woods. Balaenophya, Cepturnus & Myiocharnes pertinax on tall snags left from clearing timber for coffee. In a saddle near the origin oak & cleared area was much brush & tall grass -
