robin, woodhewers, saltators)
which proceeded up the east
slope to the oaks 700yd from
cotton. Jays & oriole flew directly
to oaks, robins stayed behind,
to woodhewer stopped on dead
sapling 1/2-way up (where coll.),
saltators (S. atriceps) worked up
thru weeds & brush.
In lower weeds of lower part of
comfield flushed a sparrow
(Aimophila ?) several times, also
a roadrunner.
Jan 6 pm. Hunted owls after dark clear
across finca to west side, up
edge of oak forest to summit &
back. No moon until return
trip - & for for about 1/2 hr.
after moon came up Cricala
virgata calling all over -
4 or 5 birds heard at one. also
some whipoorwill called. Otus
trickopsi common as usual - always
in coffee.
Jan 7 pm. at dusk, hunted so east thru
finca - many birds calling which
not heard during day. Robins &
woodhewers? calling in oaks. Coll. a
