fog higher. No moon until reached
top of ridge. Coll. Otus trichopsis
1677 on stub 6' from grd where called
in ans. to my whistled imitation hoots
at same spot where 1620 & 1621 taken.
Heard one at where 1622 taken - whistled
& saw him fly into brush at side
1678 road. collected Otus trichopsis & Jane
Cicaba virgata hoots & heard ?
Otus trichopsis & tried to follow it
up-stream but it soon quieted.
At top ridge heard 1 Cicaba
virgata in the whoo, whoo, hub, 1
1679 glaucidius brasilianum (collected from
fine shade tree after I followed it
a long way & finally got it to
come to me), 2 Otus trichopsis
? of which I saw twice & shot at.
It called in 3-10 sec intervals
from within the coffee bushes - I
saw it perch on the lower
branches or stems - once 6" from
grd. ? stayed higher in shade trees
calling calls & couldn't approach.
Also heard several Potos, one in
coffee, 3 or 4 in trees & brush on
steep S. face of ridge. Eyes shine bright
yellow-red shot one in dense trees -
bolth eyes seen at once.
