Marshall, 1942 10. 1/2/42 El Salvador Mt. Cacagniqui, Dept. Morazan January Hunted in virgin stands of oak along eastern ridge of most easterm pk. of mt. Cacagniqui. Coffee plantation extends on north-facing slope almost to top of this ridge, & birds are commonest along the edge of the oak forest. This forest of medium sized trees because on steep ground & south exposure. Collected Trogon 1659 violaceus in oaks at edge of finca. It was sitting quietly erect, tail str. down & occasionally flew out after insects or to another perch. Flight very rapid. The 3 small common woodpeckers were seen often but in slightly different habitat. Piculus rufiginosus in denser oaks, Balamosphya formicivora in larger of open oaks often with dead trees around - (also often working on same limb with Piculus & would chase Piculus) and Centurus annifrons along edge of finca. In densest oaks on north of crest, was pr.? Lepidocolaptes affinis foraging, also fighting (?) & giving high, very penetrating squeel v creepers but very loud. Collected
