General Account
Dec. 21 Zacapa, Guatemala
Came on train from Puerto Barrios through deep humid lower tropical jungles towards Zacapa after passing thru some hills, the jungle thinned & gave way to dried lower tropical 1st grassland, a few oaks, then into cactus & small deciduous growth.
Walked around outskirts of Zacapa. In deciduous growth along a stream bed saw many large dull-orange robins or flycaterers in habit (very shy) giving only a thin squeak when they flew ~ Turdus migratorius. Also ~~ about 10 black birds with deep short trill. They have a gt. variety of callio.
Many yellow Warblers heard.
Saw a flock of Orrelos, several kinds - several resembling Orchard Oriole in color but larger.
Flock of Zonotrichia capensis? in cactus hedge - also a Miner gilvus which I collected with sting shot. Both Turkey & Black Vultures seen. Latter tamer more numerous, & around buildings
