Lost Notes on
Jagers from
Frigate & Jagers trip.
General Account
Dec. 19
Belize, British Honduras, C.A.
Santa Marta anchored here in am
many Frigate birds around boat -
deep red gular pouches. Saw only
black individuals (M's?). Also I
many small gulls between
delawarensis & le canus in size.
No white windows in wing - just
white posterior margin all along.
Black from tip to wrist, rest of
mantle dark slaty grey.
Went ashore at 2 PM - mingled
with natives - very friendly, black,
speak Spanish - British citizens.
Walked along road into swamps
at W side town. Many tall acacia
groves, some palms, but mostly
20 ft high jungle of vines & bushes
in shallow standing water.
Little crabs with a single large
bright orange pincer in holes in
mud around bases of trees.
Saw: wagtails in dense brush,
a dove, grackles & ~ bird with
short deep bill, sm. Myarchlus,
several Kingbirds, Darby Flycatcher
with high shrill call. Hooded &
Redstart Warblers. Yellow Warblers
