Marshall, 1939 Othus flammeus Flag. June 2 tail down once, fluffed feathers. I previously saw him before he stopped hooting. drew wings in toward body at each hoot.] Dat ? still for about 10 min - silent physmage compressed - especially that around head - giving square-headed, big-eyed appearance. Eye-shine pinkish when farther away. Finally moved to horiz position and flew directly away. Couldn't get him to answer any more; as I moved away from his terr., he followed and answered about twice, then silent. Crossed tracks to a meadow opening out from the a side canyon in the western ridge mentioned above called for O.f. all time. Up where the canyon narrowed and the yellow pine and black (?) oaks became denser, got answer from ♂.
