1938, November October Journal "We are now in the midst of the great war. It is a terrible thing to see our boys die for their country, but it is necessary. We must do everything we can to win this war." Hiking over to Redwood Canyon after lunch. No one heard any sound except the birds singing in the evening. I saw a deer and some rabbits. They were very quiet. I did not see any other animals. The weather was cool and clear. The air was fresh and crisp. The trees were full of leaves, and the ground was covered with fallen leaves.
