July 13 In the afternoon, but up one formation one [illegible]s, one [illegible]s and m. picts. in the morning. To make a picture of the canyon walls, and then to see if we could find anything else. The canyon looks captured nothing to the left side of the trail. On the right side I shot a way down from the top of the wall and came back up again. All in all it was a good day's work. We went to camp at 4 o'clock and had lunch there. Then we drove out to the canyon and found a large nest about 12 feet above the ground in an aspen scotch. Climbed up to see but found nest abandoned and covered up. At 11:30 I shot a quailmark in a meadow grass (Emberiza grisea-viridis). Started to row at 12. Had lunch at 12:30 and continued in aspen grove, I climbed scale to right and came over the ridge. Looked down on a canyon floor of green mountains; saw a lake above them down in valley. At 12:40 headed toward water carrying down mountain side. I saw three sage hen resting in a patch and shot one of them. [illegible] Pedioecetes phasianellus Columbianus.
