April 15 10:15 - 2:45 Walked from Kringsj? to Sognsvannet & around lake today w/ side trip to circle Svartkulp - a small lake to E. of Sognsvannet. [on Sognsvannveien] Came back along W. side of Sognsvannsbekken & crossing creek to N. south of K. Studentsby station. Weather: cold + overcast early but mostly clearing mid-day, & then becoming foggily cloudy again. No ice on lake & no permanent snow patches. Along W. side of lake found a group of chorusing + courting frogs in a small pond. Frogs were mixed clad - a few large egg masses. Frogs were large & had a white line along upper jaws; their calls were low pitched & slow "trill" - at first they sounded like a distant trail bike. Also saw dropping of what was probably Mountain Hares (L. timidus). Birds recorded: Canada Goose - 1 dr Golden-eye - 25+ (much courting + squabbling going on) Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2 Mallard - 30+ Can. Gull - 6+
