Zatopek, I bought a few souvenirs. Then we
returned to the hostel & took a walk around the Polana
(= mountain meadow or clearing in the forest) visiting a
small chapel on the upper edge of the meadow. Found
a dead Sorex along the edge of the path which seemed to
be in perfect condition (WZL# 38/12). It is Park
policy - supported by Wcale - to have some sheep or
cattle grazing in this Polana to prevent disappearance
of the meadow through succession. Someone seems to
have had a few small livestock enclosures to
measure the effects of his grazing. After dinner,
mostly supplied by us, I made field skins of
the 2 specimens. The 5 live Apodemus we kept together
in a large cage.

After breakfast, we packed up & left the hostel, &
went to get our traps. At the Dorotka's house we
caught 1 Apodemus flavicollis (WZL# 3820). At

Mus and one apparently escaped because later 1 of the
traps was empty. The friends also reported that they had

from Helena (the wife) for $700 each. That was all
that she had on hand that week completed. Finally, we
