Pretoria, Transvaal, Nov. 3, 1948, 584-305-64 Description Head, Ruddy brown, nose dark brown, hairs mottled with bands of straw color, ruddy color, and dark brown giving a general ruddy color. Ears small, oval, close to head. Lighter buff hairs on throat and chin. Body - Hair a mottled ruddy brown. Hairs with rings of white brown, white brown with a ruddy brown tip in that order. Ventrally more buffy yellow. Tail - almost as long as body. Last 3-4 inches of tip with black hairs - these hairs 1 to 2" long. Other tail hairs same as those of body. Forefeet - Pads dark brown, 5 toes with claws, Claws brown, 1st toe short and upon side of foot, hair ruddy buffy brown as on body. Hind feet - 5 toes with claws, pads brown, 5th toe vestigial and on side of foot, hair same as on body.
