Koford, Rolf F. 1974 Journal 29 Nov. White Cloud campground, 11 miles east of Nevada City, Nevada Co., Calif. - ~4300 ft. I looked for squirrels from 0700 to 0945, then went into Nevada City for food and gas. Started looking again at 1115 when I released squirrel CE, which had been trapped earlier. I looked until 1700, but saw very few squirrels. I also heard very few. I did see a flock of 8 Band-tailed pigeons, several robins and red-breasted nuthatches, a couple white-headed woodpeckers, and a hairy woodpecker. Cloud cover was light, less than 5%, moving to the north. Wind 3-10 mph., Temp. was 39°F at 0700, 48°F at 1400, and 42°F at 1700, at which time it was quite dark. 30 Nov. White Cloud campground, 11 miles east of Nevada City, Nevada Co., Calif. - ~4300 ft. I looked for squirrels from 0655 until 1645 in and around the campground except for about 2 hours when I went about 4 miles west to look along the road at a lower elevation. Larry Riggs spent a couple hours here around noon. I saw a few squirrels but trapped none. There was a big group of robins (>10), a varied thrush, several brown creepers, many chickadees, a Steller's jay, and some kind of wren near and in the campground. There were many deer tracks and scat, and one coyote dropping. Wind was light, sky clear, temp. 39°F at 0700, 48°F at 1330, 42°F at 1630.
