White Cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (6, M) Nevada Co, Calif.
Oct. 14 I arrived in the afternoon, able only to spend a short time here. I spent the late afternoon in the 1st study area, watching one nest tree and trying some play-back experiments. The temp. was 73° F at 1500 , ~ 30% cloud cover. The sky cleared after sunset.
Oct. 15 I spent a couple hours in the 1st study area, mainly counting the cones left on the Sugar Pines and counting fungus-digging holes. I did try some playbacks, though. Temp. 64° F at 0730 , ~ 40% cloud cover. Light wind.
Feb. 19 I just stopped by the study area for a couple hours to look for signs. I saw no squirrels.
At least 100 feet were ~1/2. 5 of the oak 13, 70° F ?, on the snow. Also, there were a couple dozen Sugar Pine seeds dug up nearby. At the cache area near H-1 , there was a tunnel through the snow going under the log. Also, a freshly eaten Ponderosa Pine cone. There were very few tracks. Some were near E5, some E of A5, some near F3, some near the oak 18, 220° A1, along with some digging. There was lots of Incense Cedar debris around. I saw a scrful Gray Squirrel feeding near C4 and another scrful one feeding on Incense Cedar near H4. I heard no chirring calls.
