9 Oct. As a teaching assistant for Zoo 163, I came with the
class to this area yesterday afternoon. We
stayed at Sagehen Field Station, a few miles N of
Truckee, Calif., getting there by Hwy 80 from
Berkeley, then going N on Hwy 89 at Truckee. To
get to this area, we took Hwy 89 N to Sierraville,
then Hwy 49 E to Chilcoot. Only one paved road
went N out of Chilcoot. We took it, then turned
off onto a dirt road 1.2 mi N of Chilcoot, going E
on it. I set traps 0.25 mi. E of the paved road
after letting some students off about 1 mi.
