Koford, R. 1977 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (Byrd), Nevada Co., Calif. 18 Aug. was baited with a Sugar Pine cone, and soon caught the squirrel. I didn't reset that trap. Five were closed ~1100, the other - 1800. I removed chipmunks 7 times. I saw 3 Gray Sq., one chased by a chickaree - it may have started over a Sugar Pine cone. I saw and heard chases between chickarees, heard grating whines and a whine without the grating sound. I cleared 5 quadrats of holes. Wind light, sky - 90% covered with light clouds in the early morning, then clear. Temp. 63° at 0635, 81° at 1430, about 70° at 2000. 19 Aug. I spent 0550-1130, 1155-1510 in the 1st study area, plus a while in the evening in the area of CS. 13 traps were set by 0715, closed -1745, catching a marker sq., removing chipmunks 5 times, catching an adult & Beechey ground squirrel. I saw 3 Gray squirrels. There were scattered clouds (<1%) in the early morning, then clear, cloudy in the evening (80% by sunset), Wind light. Temp. 68° at 0545, 84° at 1500, 73° at 2000. 20 Aug. I spent 0610-0935 in the 1st study area. 13 traps were set by 0710, closed them at -1015. I removed chipmunks 3 times. I saw 2 Gray squirrels in the study area, 4 in the campground, all in and around a Sugar pine. Sky clear, wind light. Temp. 67° at 0605. 24 Aug. I checked a nest tree in the evening. It rained yesterday in northern Calif. - no here. Wind to -10mph. Cloud cover -50%, low clouds. Temp. 62° at 2000.
