Loford, R. 1977 Journal White Cloud campground 4300 ft. 11 mi. E Nevada City (by red), Nevada Co., Calif. 2 Aug. I spent 1751-2025 in the 1st study area, watching sq. C go to his nest in the evening. Cloud cover was <17, but there were clouds on the western horizon, making the light leave the treetops early. Temp 93° at 1500, 79° at 2025. 3 Aug. I spent 0623-1137, 1825-2025 in the 1st study area. I found a new nest, and E's just seemed to have moved back to the old nest. I set 20 traps by 0700, closed them ~1830. I removed 4 chipmunks, juvenile Beechey Ground Squirrels 6 times (once with 2 sq. in the same trap). I caught 2 chickarees. I saw 2 Gray Squirrels, a couple chipmunks, and a Cooper's Hawk flew from an area where a sq. gave an alarm call. There was a light haze in the sky all day - especially in the E in the morning. Wind light. Temp. 72° F at 0620, 91° at 1500, 77° at 2030. 4 Aug. I spent 0733-1210, 1835-2030 in the 1st study area, plus some time in the afternoon just to check traps: 20 traps set by 0820, closed ~1845. I removed juvenile Beechey Ground Squirrels twice, chipmunks 4 times. I saw Gray Squirrels twice. I watched DF's oak in the evening. Sky hazy in the early morning, clear by mid-morning. Wind light. Temp. 71° at 0730, 88° at 1400, 74° at 2030. 5 Aug. I spent 0658-1220, 1245-1636 in the 1st study area, plus a few min. in the evening to watch DF's oak. 20 traps set by 0805, closed ~1800.
