White Cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd.), Nevada Co., Calif.
9 April I spent a few min. in the study area several times during the day to make sure that there was no mating bout. It had snowed last night (< 1 in.) and there was lots of dripping from the trees, making observations and note-taking difficult. I went into Nevada City for supplies late in the afternoon. By the end of the day, all the snow had melted.
10 April I spent 0813-1215, 1615-1825 in the 1st study area. Around midday, I saw a Gray Squirrel chase another on the ground for at least a min., covering an area ~ 50m x 20m. There are some ? Douglas Fir cones. I saw one small markroom, found a Gray Sq. tail in the study area. The sky was mostly clear - some hazy clouds in the early afternoon. Temp. reached 65° F at 1510, nor 52° F at 1830. Wind was light.
11 April I spent 0812-1210, 1610-1840 in the 1st study area. I saw 1 Gray Squirrel. One ? chirred at one ?, then had an encounter with another ?. At another point, I saw an encounter between neighboring ?. One ? got a cone that had been stored in a tree, then stored the rest in the tree. I found
