Koford, R. 1977 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft, 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd), Nevada Co, Cal. 1 April take a cone from another squirrel's cache. The sky was mostly lightly hazy until ~1600, when it got more heavily overcast, then cleared. Temp. 40°F at 0730, up to ~60°F. 2 April I spent 0550-1210, 1240-1830 in the 1st study area. The sun first hit the treetops at 0617, left them at 1827. It was a clear day, light wind. Temp. 35°F at 0550, about 60°F in the afternoon, 46°F at 1830. Saw 2 Gray Squirrels. 3 April I spent 0805-1108 in the 1st study area. It was mostly clear, some hazy clouds. Light wind. The cone I saw stored in the oak 13ft. 70°F is still there. Temp. 42°F at 0800. 7 April I spent 1700-1740 in the 1st study area, just to make sure no mating bout had taken place. The snow on the ground was essentially all gone. It was clear, wind to ~15 mph. 8 April I spent 0755-1231, 1242-1310, 1316-1810 in the 1st study area. There was a mating bout, but I didn't see any completed copulations. I found some tufts of hair near D3, where a chickaree had evidently been eaten. On my last trip, I'd found lots of hair on a log near H1. It was overcast, then some blue sky in the late morning, rain started in mid-afternoon, continued into the night.
