Koford, R. 1977 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd.), Nevada Co., Calif. 29 March I spent 1535-1730 in the 1st study area, leaving it when it started snowing. It started snowing lightly at 1800. From the weather reports, a couple storms have dropped snow here since my last trip. The snow cover on the ground is less than 5%. 30 March I spent 0755-1250, 1305-1810 in the 1st study area. I may have found a new nest. At least 4 known squirrels have survived the winter. There was a lot of activity 5 of the study area - maybe getting ready for a mating bout tomorrow. One squirrel spent a lot of time in a hole in a &'s area and she tried to get at him. I saw one 0'-2 encounter. It sleeted for a few minutes at 1500, but the 2 squirrels I was watching at the time didn't go into hole. I heard 2 & chir. At least 1 squirrel was eating Douglas Fir strobili, which seems small. The early morning was clear, but later it was 80% cloudy or more. Wind was up to ~ 25 mph. Temp. was 36°F at 1815, and probably didn't get much above that. 31 March I spent 0630-1220, 1250-1820 in the 1st study area. It was windy, cold in the morning (26°F at 0630) but probably got up to ~ 55°F. 1 April I spent 0733-0825 in the 2nd study area, but didn't see anything, so spent 0840-1235, 1450-1830 in the 1st area, going into Nevada City for supplies in the early afternoon. I saw one squirrel apparently
