Koford, F. 1926 Journal white cloud coverage, 4300 ft, 71 mi E Nevada City (by rd), Nevada Co., Calif. 6 Nov. evening. Almost all the leaves of the oaks are dead, and dropping. Most fir cones have disintegrated and dropped their scales, leaving a central stalk. I started a record of the number of fir and ponderosa pine cones left on the trees. Cloud cover varied from heavy clouds over ~30% of the sky at 0800 to ~70% in the early afternoon, ~10% at sunset. Wind light. Temp. 60°F at 0815, 73°F at 1415, 60°F at 1720. 7 Nov. I spent 0605-1230, 1335-1715 in the 12th study area. I set the 10 traps from 0755-0805, closed them from 1535- 1740, catching one of squirrel E's juveniles. She was surprisingly heavy, considering that these juveniles look small. I saw one Gray Squirrel, saw a couple squirrels (juveniles) run away from areas where chips came from. I noted an oak at midday, 2 in the evening. There were a few clouds over <5% of the sky most of the day. Wind was light. Temp. 53°F at 0600, 67°F at 1330, 57° at 1715. 8 Nov. I spent 0615-1215, 1355-1705 in the 12th study area, setting 15 traps from 0820-0845, closing them ~1515. I saw 3 chipmunks, 2 Gray Squirrels. I watched a nest oak in the morning, a former one in the evening. Sky hazy ~60% all day, up to ~80% in the late afternoon. Wind light. Temp. 51°F at 0610, 61°F at 1345, 58°F at 1730. a finishing 9 Nov. I spent 0625-1000 in the 1st study area, continuing the count of oaks cones. The sky was ~50% cloudy in the early morning, clear by 0900. Wind light. Temp. 60°F at 0620, mid. 60's at 1030 when I left.
