19 June Markwood Meadows, 6 mi. east of Shaver Lake,
Fresno Co., Calif. ~ 6000 ft.
Habitat as described for 17 June. No cloud
cover in the morning; wind 5-10 mph.,
temp. about 45° at 0730. At around 0930
clouds started moving over toward the north. Cloud
cover then about 70%; temp. 58°-55° F.; wind
fairly steady at about 5 mph. By 1000 the
cloud cover was very light (<1%). It clouded
over again soon thereafter and by 1100
cloud cover was ~ 95%. For much of the
remainder of the day the cloud cover was
about 50%. They were moving fast so there
was a constant shifting between sunny and
shady. Temp. reached about 60°, wind light
all day.
I observed chickarees around the camp
most of the day, making an excursion
further east than I usually did. I also
went up the hill on the cost for a
couple hours in the early afternoon. At
1630 observations were discontinued and I
went out with the Fish & Game people.
Observations began again at 1850, ended
at 1934. By that time the cloud
cover was < 1%, wind 1-3 mph., temp.
arounds 55° F.
