I spent 0633-1315, 1325-1910 in the 1st study area, seeing 2 Gray Squirrels, one being chased by a chickaree. I found a juvenile in a new place. I may have seen the tail of a chase of a Berkeley Ground Squirrel by a chickaree. The traps were opened at 0840-0915, closed the for 1645-1700, catching a small ground squirrel and a Steller Jay. Wind light, sky overcast all day. Temp. 61°F at 0630, 21°F at 1320, 55° at 1930. 30 Sept. I spent 0630-0800 in the first study area, then picked up the traps and left. I arrived last night and the ground was wet. A couple local people told me that it had rained very little, but been overcast. This day was foggy and overcast all day, and it rained a little in mid-afternoon. Wind light. Temp. 50°F at 0725, 51°F at 1400, 49° at 1930. The trees dripped all day and it was dark, making observation and note taking difficult. 3 Oct. I spent 0630-1155, 1250-1855 in the 1st study area hearing a ? chirp and a Gray Squirrel alarm call.
