Koford, R. 1976 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd.), Nevada Co., Calif. 16 Sept. been trying to count for the last several days. I spent some time in the area E of 192 trying to see the half-grown juveniles I saw there before, without success. I spent most of the day continuing the cone catalogue. I opened 24 traps from 0915-1000, closed them from 1755-1850, catching one chickaree and 2 juvenile ground squirrels. I heard a chirp from a presumed female juvenile. The sky was ~20% cloudy in the early morning, ~80 to 100% around midday, then clearing in the middle afternoon. Wind light. Temp. 47°F at 0610, 54°F at 1730, 50°F at 1940. 17 Sept. I spent 0717-1150 in the 1st study area, continuing the cone catalogue. Sky ~30% cloudy. Wind light. Temp. 50°F at 0700. 21 Sept. I spent 1630-1800 in the 2nd study area. Sky ~20% cloudy. Wind light. 22 Sept. I spent 0723-1250, 1400-1725 in the 2nd study area, hearing surprisingly few chirps. I set 15 traps from 0950-1045, closed them from 1600-1625, catching 2 squirrels. I saw 2 Gray Squirrels, heard another. There are small juveniles in 2 areas. I saw 2 squirrels in the same tree for several min., one chirping, heard a female chirp. Sky 30-80% cloudy, wind to ~10 mph. Temp. 53°F at 0715, 75°F at 1400, 55°F at 2015. 23 Sept. I spent 0630-1215, 1435-1825 in the 2nd study area. I opened the 15 traps from 0930-1015, closed them at ~1800, catching one juvenile. I heard a chirping, saw 3 Gray Squirrels. Seeds from White Firs fell occasionally with a gentle clattering sound. I could see one family in the study area. The sky was clear in the
