Koford, R. 1976 Journal White Cloud campground, 4308ft, 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd), Nev., Aug. 30 Aug. I didn't actively seek squirrel sightings from the late morning to ~1900, but I did record calls, and I saw some squirrels while checking the traps. I've found 84 errors which seem to be cache areas. I saw 4 Gray Squirrels - no interaction with chickadees - and a Boyzle and some Swifts. Sky clear, wind light. Temp in the low 60's in the morning, 85°F at 1340, 73° at 2015. 31 Aug. I spent 0615-1315, 1505-1955 in the 2nd study area, going into Nevada City in the afternoon for dry ice and supplies. I spent most of the day continuing a catalogue of cone production. I saw one chase between 2 juveniles. I saw 3 Gray Squirrels - they seemed like juveniles. I opened the 30 traps at 0740-0850, closed them at 1755-1815. Sky clear, wind light. Temp. 67°F at 0615, 89°F at 1500, 71°F at 2030. 1 Sept. I spent 0615-1350, 1425-1950 in the 2nd study area, spending most of my time after ~1000 cataloguing cones. I set one additional trap in a cache area. 31 in all, from 0840-0940, closed them at 1755-1820, catching 1 juvenile ♂. I saw 3 Gray Squirrels, 2 interacting with chickadeer. They seem to be dominant at close range, but generally move away, at least a little. I saw one squirrel leave its nest in the morning, one go in in the evening. I got some additional range information on a couple squirrels. Sky clear, wind light. Temp 63°F at 0600, 88°F at 1415, 73°F at 2015.
