Koford, R. 1974 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (Butt), Nears CA Coll. 18 Aug. It rained last night and there was a light rain in the early morning. Then water dripped from the trees, making observation difficult. Since the forecast was for more rain, I picked up the traps and left around noon. The temperature was 50° F at 0900. 26 Aug. Temp. 75° F at 1530, 62° F at 2000. The ground was wet in many places, and where dry, wet under a couple ins. of dirt or a couple oz. of duff. I opened the traps from 0720-0915, closed them from 1805-1830. I saw a Gray Squirrel chase a chickaree, and at another time saw a chickaree chase a Gray Squirrel—probably a juvenile. I saw a long chase, but couldn't identify the participants. I saw 2 other Gray Squirrels. Wind light, sky clear. Temp. 60° F at 0700, 81° F at 1500, 68° F at 2000. 28 Aug.
