Koford, R. 1976 Journal White cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd.) [illegible], Calif 15 Aug. puddler of water several centimeters deep in some dirt roads. I spent 0905 - 0935, 1205 - 1315, 1900 - 2010 in the 1st study area, hearing quite a few chirring calls in spite of the wet weather. Wind light, temp. 45°F at 0900, 49°F at 1700, 47°F at 2030. 16 Aug. I spent 0650 - 1200 in the area S of the mile 31 marker of Hwy 20, about 1 1/2 mi. E (by rd.) of the campground, trying unsuccessfully to collect juveniles or females. The squirrels mostly stayed high in the trees. I then spent 1640 - 2000 in the 1st study area, seeing mostly juveniles, but seeing one scrotal o with a bare rostrum chase a juvenile. The ground was wet, and some leaves were still wet. The sky was completely overcast until ~ 1600, then over 90% cloud2 until ~ 1800, then clearing to ~15% cloud cover - all o on the western horizon - by sunset. Wind light, temp. 44°F at 0630, 55°F at 1630, 47°F at 2015. 17 Aug. I spent 0710 - 1200, 1618 - 2000 in the 1st study area, hearing 120 chirrs. I went into [illegible] Nevada City in the afternoon, getting dry ice and supplies. I found 2 probable juvenile nests - one may have moved from a more exposed hole 14 found previously. I also saw a lactating R go just a hole w/ it remains to be seen whether this is a change Also, I saw a R cutting ~ 7 cones/mix. or a new R. I saw a long o - & encounter with 15C, I think. If it's her, she's now in summer polyg. Wind up to ~10mph sky overcast except for a few patches of blue and midday rain at 2000. Temp. 45°F at 0700, 60°F at 1615, 51°F at 2030,
