Koford, R. 1976 Farm Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft, 11 min E Nevada City (by rd), Nevada Co, GtF. 27 June I spent 0720 - 1320, 1620 - 1840 in the second study area. I stopped taking chirping data at 1740. Perhaps 30 occurred after that, probably over 100 during the whole day. Something was happening - perhaps a moating boat- at the NE end of the study area. The traps were opened from ~0800 to ~1800. Sky clear, wind light. Temp to ~80°F in the afternoon. 28 June I spent 0540-0830, 1005 - 1350, 1610-1830 in the second study area, hearing 68 chirs. In the morning I watched the oldest nest I know of and saw an adult on it, so I guess the mother is still sleeping with the juveniles. I noticed another nest around noon and saw the mother come after 1300. I opened the 30 traps ~0800, closed them ~1900. I went into Nevada City for dry ice in the morning. I saw one Gray Squirrel and a Rat-tailed Hawk flew over. Sky clear but there seemed to be smoke in the West in the evening. Wind light, temp to ~80°F. 29 June I spent 0540-1340, 1715 - 2040 in the 2nd study area, hearing 157 chirrs. The 30 traps were opened ~0800, closed ~1730, catching 1 Junco. I again watched the nest I'd watched yesterday morning, but saw no adult. I also saw a squirrel run away after chirring. Sky clear until a little after 1800, then ~20% cloudy, but still smoke in the W. it cleared by sunset. It was willy up to ~20mph, all day. Temp reached high 70s. I saw 2 Gray Squirrels, found a nest.
