Koford, R. 1976 Journal White Cloud campground 4300 ft, 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd), Nevada Co., Calif. 16 June the ~1800, recapturing the squirrel I caught yesterday and catching 1 Brockey Ground Squirrel. I saw one Gray Squirrel and a Stellar Jay with a kinglet-sized bird in its mouth, probably a nestling or fledgling. Sky clear, wind light. Temp. 58°F at 0600, 78°F at 1500, 64°F at 2100. 17 June I spent 0610-1330, 1615-2011 in the 1st study area, seeing a mating bout and hearing hundreds of chirls. I opened the 36 traps from 0700 to 0800, closed then from 1630-1700, catching a juvenile and the ♂ I've caught the last couple days. I saw 2 Gray Squirrels which were very high on a clear tree near C5--I think they were juveniles. Sky clear, wind light. Temp. 58°F at 0600, 80°F at 1400, 67°F at 2030. The first chir I heard at the truck was at 0533. At ~1600, several chirls came from near the truck; then a ♂ gave an alarm call, or did a squirrel a few meters away. Chirring cell data was not taken after 1730. 18 June I spent 0635-1015 in the 1st study area, hearing 48 chirls. The traps were opened at ~0700, picked up ~1000. I saw a Gray Squirrel in the study area. Wind light, sky clear. 22 June I spent 1722-2000 in the 1st study area to count and fill holes in 5 randomly-chosen squares. I recorded chirls but made no effort to find squirrels until I came in the evening. I saw 2 tame Gray Squirrels near where I've seen a couple of presumed juveniles previously. I heard 18 chirls. Wind light, sky clear.
