White Cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd), Nevada Co, Calif.
5 June several fledgling Juncos. I also saw a deer and chipmunk
in the study area. The sky was clear, wind up to ~20 mpl.
in the morning, light in the afternoon. Temp. mid 50's
in early morning and around sunset, reaching high 60's.
6 June I spent 0605-1245, 1510-2023 in the second study
area, hearing 29 chirps. The traps were open from ~0700-
~1800, caught nothing. I found a nest tree with
5 juveniles in it, saw 2 Gray Squirrels. The morning
had a few lazy clouds, and these increased to
complete overcast by ~1500. Near sunset, the
sun came through, but overhead was still overcast.
The morning was windy - up to ~20 mpl, but the
afternoon was fairly calm (< 5 mpl). Temp. ranged
from mid-50's to near 70°F.
7 June I spent 0633-1115 in the second study area, hearing 29
chirps. The traps were opened at ~0700, picked up from
1000-1115. The cloud cover was 70-50% in the early
morning, then clear. Wind to ~20 mpl. Temp. mid 60's(75)
when I left for Berkeley at 1140.
12 June I parked N of the hwy and spent 1450-1535,
1550-2036 in the 1st study area, hearing 31 chirps.
I put out, but did not set, 30 Tomahawk and 6 Young's
traps. Several Ponderosa Pines have dozens of small
cone cones under them, and [illegible] the ground is covered
with Douglas Fir strobili. Under the top few millimeters,
the ground was wet - it had evidently rained recently.
It rained lightly twice in Berkeley in the last
