Koford, R. 1974 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd.) Nevada Co, Cal.f. 23 May the study area, and a couple people gathering firewood. I saw a Cooper Hawk fly within ~25 f. of a squirrel - no alarm call. The sky not clear, wind light. Temp. ~60° F to ~70° F. 24 May I spent 0618-1330, 1515-2010 in the 1st study area, hearing 81 chirs. I opened the 30 traps from 0620-0710, closed them from 1930-1950. I caught nothing. The campground is almost empty - they started charging today, so I moved the truck to the W side of the Hwy, about half a mile E of the campground entrance. Sky hazy most of the day, wind up to ~15 mph. Temp. ~60° F to~70° F. 25 May I spent 0714-1025, 1230-1836, 1840-2015 in the study area, hearing 32 chirs. I set 5 more traps in the W end of the study area, and opened the 30 others between 0730-0830, closed them from 1800 to 1820, caught only 1 Steller Jay. I went into Nevada City in the late morning for dry ice and supplies. The ground in the study area is littered in many places with individual Douglas Fir strobili. Sky mostly clear, with some hazy clouds, wind light, temp. ~60° F to ~70° F. 26 May I spent 0645-1427, 1510-2025 in the 1st study area, hearing 54 chirs. I set the 35 traps from 0650-0240, closed them around 1800, but caught only a Steller Jay. Sky clear, wind up to ~15 mph. Temp. ~60° F to [illegible] 70° F). I saw a Red-tailed Hawk fly over.
