Koford, R 1976 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft, 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd), Nevada Co., Calif. 13 May I spent 0620-0700, 0840-1220, 1535-1730, 1840- 2000 in the 1st study area, hearing 17 chirs. I set 10 traps in the study area at ~0645. I caught 2 Chickarees and a couple Ground Squirrels. I also put out 25 traps north of the highway, catching one female Chickaree. I closed those traps at about 1800 and I picked up the 10 in the study area at about 1715. Sky clear, wind 3-15 mph., Temp. mid 50's (°F) at 0700, low 70's in the early afternoon, high 50's at 0800. New birds: Hermit Thrush Western Wood Pewee 20 May I spent about an hour in the mid-afternoon in the area of Norden and about half an hour in a campground near Lake Valley Reservoir. Both areas had numerous Lodgepole Pine cones and fallen cover which looked light - maybe like last fall's crop. Also, both areas had localized hot spots with many more cones than adjacent areas - at least ~35% in dia. Then I went to White Cloud campground and spent 1643-2020 in the 1st study area, hearing 11 chirs and seeing a squirrel go into a hole in an oak. The sky was hazy - wind light. Temp in the 60's (°F) 21 May I spent 0635-0745, 0845-1230, 1610-2005 in the 1st study area, hearing 54 chirs. I saw a ? chir several times and saw 2 Gray Squirrels - one on an oak in which a ? had a nest - no close. Some of the Dogles firs
