Koford, R. 1976 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300ft, 11 mi El Nevada City (by road) Nevada Co, Calif 7 May I spent 0718 - 1405, 1630 - 1825 in the second study area, hearing 5 chirring calls. I opened the 15 traps at about 0745, set 10 more at about 1100, closed them at ~ 1830. I saw one Gray Squirrel ~100ft SW of the study area. Sky mostly clear, a few clouds (< 10%), wind light; temp. 52°F at 0720, 70°F at 1403, 60°F at 2000. I saw a few new birds: Cooper Hawk Warbling Vireo Pine Siskins Olive-sided Flycatcher Black-headed Grosbeak Black-throated Gray Warbler 8 May I spent 0640 - 0940, 1215 - 1530, 1735 - 2005 in the second study area, hearing 14 chirring calls. I opened the 25 traps in the area at about 0745, closed them at about 1515, but caught nothing. I went into Nevada City in the late morning for dry ice and supplies. The sky was 50 - 80% covered with clouds in the morning, increasing to 100% in the early afternoon, with peals of thunder. It rained lightly from 1500 - 1530. Wind was generally light, though. Temp. 52°F at 0640, 70°F at 1400, 56°F at 2000. 9 May I spent 0624 - 1255, 1535 - 1955 in the second study area, hearing 7 chirring calls. I opened the 25 traps at about 0700, closed them at ~ 1800. I saw a Gray Squirrel go within about 2 m of a trap - no chase. I saw another Gray Squirrel ~100ft SW of the study area, and a deer in it. Wind light; temp. 72°F at 1300, mid 50's at 2000. Sky clear in the morning, 30 - 80% clouds in the afternoon. Temp. 60°F at 0900,
