Koford, R. 1976 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft, 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd.), Nevada Co., Calif. 22 April I spent 0710-1205, 1715-1845 in the 2nd study area, hearing 12 chirring calls. I opened 30 traps N of hwy 20, W of the Picnic Area at about 0630, closed them at about 1630, and checked them around 1300. I caught a & chickoree in the morning - the same one I caught yesterday, I think; and that & and a ? and a Becker Ground Squirrel in the afternoon. The ? later escaped. The morning was largely overcast - 50-100% cloud cover - and windy - westerly 5-25 mph. Then it cleared in the afternoon. Temp. 43°F at 0600, 59°F at 1330, 46°F at 1845. I heard a Gray Squirrel. 23 April I spent 0700-1005 in the 2nd study area, 1115-1125 and 1140-1220 in the first, hearing 1 chirring call. I opened the 30 traps N of the hwy around 0630, checked them at 1030, picked them up at 1300. I caught one ? - the same one as before, I think, and ? AD in the morning, and a chipmunk in the early afternoon, which I released. It was a clear day, wind light. Temp. 47° at 0645, mid 60's when I left. In the past few days, I've seen these birds in the area: Turkey Vulture Band-tailed Pigeon Mountain Chickadee White-breasted Nuthatch Red-breasted Nuthatch Brown Creeper Robin Varied Thrush Townsend's Solitaire Golden-crowned Kinglet Ruby-crowned Kinglet Solitary Vireo Audubon Warbler Hermit Warbler Junco Rufous-sided Towhee Fox Sparrow White-headed Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker Hairy Woodpecker Pileated Woodpecker Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Stella Jay
