Sagehen Creek Field Station, 6400 ft., 3 m. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
18 October folding Sherman in the widely-spaced boulder area - 2 near whitewashed rocks. The whitewash, made by woodrats, was along a ridge of rock, about 30 cm. long. I also set 15 more Sherman in the rocky cliff area, all near woodrat whitewash. I set 3 museum specials in the boulders, 5 in the scrub area. Then we went back to the field station for the night. A diagramatic view of the desert site follows:

Bonnie Brown and I then set museum specials in the area where the road to the field station meets Hwy 89.
The traps were set after sunset, in hopes of getting some chipmunks which we had seen eating pine seeds this morning. I set 10 traps - 7 at bases of Jeffrey Pines, 3 in brush. We then checked the traps in the meadow. I found a Microtus montanus in the same museum special I'd found one in earlier today. Temp. reached the high 60's (°F), wind light, light clouds (<10%) most of the day.
I heard at least 10 chirring calls of chickarees during the morning, while near the field station. Moon is almost full.
19 October Before breakfast we went back to the dry site near Chilcoot to pick up our traps. I found 1 Peromyscus maniculatus in a trap (Sherman) which had been set in the scattered boulder area, and 3 P. crinitus in Sherman set in the
