Koford, R. 1975 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft. 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd.) Nevada Co., Calif. 12 September I spent 0755 - 1120 in the 1st study area, hearing 11 churring calls - some not in the study area. I left around 1300, after picking up the 11 traps N of the dry. The 45 traps in the second study area were left in place, closed. Temp. in mid 60's (°F) at 0800, with very light cloud cover ~50 % of the sky. At noon it was clear and in the high 70's (°F). Wind light. 17th September I arrived last night, parking near the second study area. I spent 0815 - 1230, 1700 - 1930 in the second study area, opening the 45 traps in the morning. I heard 5 churring calls. The morning had ~20% cloud cover, the afternoon was clear. Wind light. Temp. 64°F at 0830, 72°F at 1700, 65°F at 1930. 18 September I spent 0810-1235, 1600 - 1745 in the second study area, hearing 5 churring calls. I went into Nevada City in the afternoon for supplies and dry ice. The sky was completely overcast all morning, clearing in the early afternoon. I put in several more grid stakes. Wind light. Temp. 65°F at 0815, 74°F at 1600, 63°F at 1930. 19 September I spent 0655 - 1345 in the second study area, hearing 14 churring calls, then 1830 - 1910 in the 1st study area, hearing 1 churring call. Sky clear, wind light. Temp. 63°F at 0800, 76°F at 1630, 68°F at 1910. I closed the traps in the second study area just before leaving there. 20 September I spent 0700 - 1015 in the first study area, hearing 10 churring calls. I set 2 traps early in the morning, closed them before I left. Many large mushrooms are coming up - on the order of 10/acre. They're in discrete groups. Wind light, light clouds. Temp. 62° at 0830.
