Koford, R. 1975 Journal White Cloud campground, 4360 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City (by rd.), Nevada Cty, Cal. 20 August starting at 1915. The rain stopped at about 2015. About half the campsites were occupied and a couple people had dogs, but they didn't bring them into the study area as far as I know in the early afternoon. I went into Nevada City for dry ice. 21 August I spent 0815-1230, 1415-2000 in the study area, some time in the campground, hearing 15 churring calls and trapping one squirrel. One of the squirrels in my study area gave a churring call in the campground and chased a squirrel there, probably one that had churred from the same spot earlier in the day. The campground was still about half full. Temp. at 0815 was 52°F, 63°F in the mid-afternoon. Wind was light. Cloud cover was ~80% all morning; it rained lightly from 1110 to ~1230. Cloud cover ~50% in the afternoon, clearing completely by sunset. I went into Nevada City for the night. 22 August I got supplies and dry ice in Nevada City, then spent 1015-1230, 1500 to 2000 in the study area, trapping 2 squirrels, hearing no churring calls. I moved the traps that caught squirrel CD last night and squirrel EH this morning to the area E of the present study area grid, and put a trap by a large fallen log S of GS where I suspect a nest is, a little before 2000. The campground filled up completely by nightfall, and 2 motorcycles went along the road running through the study area a couple times. Also, a person used a chainsaw in the N part of the study area. Sky clear, wind light. Temp. at 1015 was 64°F, at 1500 it was 72°F at 1830 it was 62°F.
