Koford, R. 1975 Journal White Cloud campground, 4300 ft., 11 mi. E Nevada City, Nevada Co., Calif. 15 May I walked around in the study area and adjacent areas from 0610 to 0720, 0800-1020. I then went into Nevada city to get some dry ice, and looked for squirrels again from 1130-1230, 1500 to 2000. I set out 15 live traps from 0600 to 1000 and closed them at about 1900. I caught 1 squirrel, heard several churring calls, most by the same squirrel. The sky was clear in the early morning, then hazy clouds over about half the sky for the rest of the morning. The afternoon was clear. Wind 5-15 mph. It r.p. 44°F at 0615, 59°F at 1700, 48°F at 2000. 16 May I was in the study area and campground, mostly the former, from 0645-0745, 0815-1300, 1530-1815. I placed more grid stakes in the morning, completing the number 5 row up to 15. I closed the traps a little after 1805. Several churring calls were heard. The sky was clear all day. temp. 46°F at 0700, 66°F at 1300. Wind light. 17 May I looked for squirrels at several places & several miles on Hwy 20. I wanted to collect pregnant squirrels but saw none. Then I looked from 0545-0630, 0700-1200, 1530-1630. I then returned to camp 43. Sky was clear in the morning, about 57° in the afternoon. temp. 44°F at 0700, 70°F at 1600, 62°F at 2000. W:15-15mph. 18 May I looked for squirrels in the campground and study area, mostly the latter, from 0800 to 1230. Sky was clear, temp. 60°F at 0830, 73° F at 1230. Wind light. I left at about 1300. There were still a few small patches of snow in the study area.
