Koford, R. 1975 Journal White cloud campground, 11 mi. E Nevada City, Nevada Co., Calif. 4300 ft 9 April Torn open, as if by squirrels trying to get at the insects. I have no idea which species of squirrel did it, though. I found a pile of feathers where a Red-shouldered Flicker had apparently been eaten. I also saw Snowshoe Hare and Gray Squirrel tracks. Birds were as usual, including White-headed Woodpecker. 10 April I looked for squirrels from 0840 to 1230, seeing one. I caught 1 Steller Jay in a trap, but no squirrels. I picked up the traps around noon and left soon after. The sun was intermittent - 50-80% cloud cover. Wind light (5 mph ±), occasionally harder, up to 25 mph. Temp. at 0900 was 37°F, at 1300 it was 48°F. There was still 2-3 ft. of snow in most places, with some places much deeper and some, especially under the trees, less deep. Only a few globs of snow remained on the trees. 16 April I arrived last night too late to do any observations. It had apparently snowed 3-4 cm. on the afternoon of the 15th and there is snow on the branches up to about 4 cm. I set 7 traps, catching 1 squirrel. The traps were in the campground area, 5 south of the planted oak, 2 by camp 9. I wanted to test the methoxyflurane as an anesthetic and the Lady Clairul Ultra Blue as a marking agent on squirrels which were not living in the study site. There is much less snow here now than there was last week - some places
