Koford, R. 1975 Journal White Cloud campground, 11 mi. E Nevada City, Nevada Co., Calif. 4300 ft 6 April The tracks were about 10 cm. apart. In one case, a tail mark could clearly be seen and a dropping had been deposited. In the other, no tail mark could be seen, but they were less well defined generally. [diagram] k-10cm-→ No churring calls were heard, but the squirrels I saw gave alarm calls for a very long time. These birds were seen! (no sp. accounts) 3 Steller Jays 1 Brown Creeper 4 Mountain Chickadees 6 Golden-crowned Kinglets 2 Red-breasted Nuthatches I also saw a Western Gray Squirrel apparently licking salt off the road at about 3000 ft. on my way down to get groceries. There were 3 cars - families - here when I got back, and later a family with 2 snowmobiles that raced around the picnic area for a couple hours. 7 April There was only about 1 cm. of new snow around from last night and the early morning was overcast but snowless. Then it snowed fairly heavily from about 0845 until 1730, adding about 18 cm. to the already considerable snow depth. I looked for squirrels, seeing two, from 0830 to 1250 and from 1800 to 1935, mostly in the campground. Temp. was 28°F all day. Wind light. I saw 2 sets of snowshoe tracks.
