Kotford, R. 1975 Journal White Cloud campground, 11 mi. E Nevada City, Nevada Co., Calif. 4300 ft. 26 March looked around for another hour or so, quitting at 1825. The temperature had gotten up to 38°F, but the crust hadn't gotten too soft to walk on in most places, though it did soften up. Temp. at 0815 had been 26°F. The wind was gusty at times, up to 20 mph., especially in the morning, but the afternoon was calmer. Cloud cover was 0-5%. The following is a list of vertebrate species seen during the last two days. None have Sp. Accounts. 60+ Golden-crowned Kinglets 10+ Steller Jays 3 Mountain Chickadees 1 Brown Creeper 2 White-headed Woodpeckers 1 Red-shafted Flicker 1 Turkey Vulture 1 Winter Wren 1 Varied Thrush (♀) 4 Red-breasted Nuthatches Also, tracks of these: 1 Western Gray Squirrel Coyote Deer Snowshoe Hare Western Gray Squirrel (ppsr) 27 March I looked for squirrels from 0710, shortly after sunrise, until about 0930, seeing one. I also saw a Western Gray Squirrel on the north side of Hwy 20 across from the campground entrance. I had breakfast and then left the area shortly after 1000. The snow was still crusty so I didn't really expect to see any new tracks. The wind was fairly steady, from N at 15-20 mph. Temp. at 0710: 26°F, at 1000: 34°F. No cloud cover.
