Koford, R. 1974 Journal 15 Dec. 9.2 mi. E, 6.6 mi. S Colonia Cardenas, Baja Calif.del Norte, Mexico ~1050m. large holes which could have been kit fox dens. We had seen a bobcat at about 1530 between our camp and Mike's Sky Rancho. We also saw a roadrunner, Nuttall's woodpecker, Hairy woodpecker, (these near Mike's) Audubon's warbler, Kinglet, scrub jay, Oregon junco, red-tailed hawk, Kingfisher, and raven. The sky was 50% covered by wispy clouds in the morning with light wind. By late afternoon the wind was gusting to ~30 mph but it was not too cold (~45° F). 16 Dec. Rancho Sangre de Cristo, 31 1/2 mi. E Ensenada, Baja Calif. del Norte, Mexico ~850m. Out of 19 traps (folding Sherman's) I caught two Peromyscus eremicus (one on the hill under a rock, one on the flat area), two P. maniculatus, five Dipodomys. My one large collapsible Havahart baited with two Dipodmys carcasses yielded nothing. The others caught these species plus P. Escobrick caught a Perognathus. There were two kinds of Dipodomys, D. merriami and a five-toed one, maybe D. heermanni. Dave Bradford caught a Neotoma lepida in the rocks on the hill. We processed material and did skins all morning. Dave Bradford and Bill Glantz left mid-morning after helping with the processing. 17 Dec No notes taken by me. Our next locality was to 19th. 1/2 mi. S La Mision Arroyo Martinez, then back to San Diego, where I went E to Albuquerque and the others went back to the SF. by air.
