Journal 19 March 1962 Dac-Dacca, E. Pakistan US-AID (floor below US Consulate). He had traveled much in E & W Pak- istan but knew little of wildlife and had not heard of Mujil- ullah or other dealers. Mostly interested in water, cholera, & malaria. But offered cooperation & some transportation in Chittagong Hills area. Said re- sarch projects done thru govt. Should have no difficulty, & no special import problems. The vet, W.H. Dietrich (Con- sultant, U.S.-AID, Adamjee Court, Motijheel, Dacca 2) absent, tho but should have knowledge condition monkeys in ship- ments. | I visited office of Mujilullah. St Crowsds between stor, about 10' wide. Sign at front said S. Mujilullah, Export- ers, Jute Manufacturers & Monkeys, Collector of Wild Animals, Birds, & Reptiles. Dark inside; crowded; 3-4 desks, & men working on books. Largely effort jute products & dried medicinal plant parts. He showed me newspaper picture of fire low- age (December 1961). Said not rebuilding farm as ex- pects soon to get land near airport for new farm. | I visited Akhter-Bazon co., of which Rankin but not Muji- bullah had told me. In 20'x 20'yards of gullyby res- ident on crowded street, wood sea shipping crates with wire fronts, with 100+ monkeys. About 1/2 3-4 lbs. in one air shipment crate. Mostly adults in fair condition. The boss, a red eyed hotel cleaner of about 50, said shipping to Bluch, but stalled when asked for names other custom- ers. Formerly to Trefflich, apparently. No atmosphere cordiality, neatness, or efficiency. | Then I visited Maki Corp., Mr. Nafizallah. Formerly worked for M.; but- spoke good English; handsome. Had no monkeys yet [not the owner]
