Journal 3 August 1970 NE of Toloca, Dpt. Puna, Peru No catch in traps as in 1 bot net. Again hunted lizards. In afternoon we broke camp + drove further E up Q. Parinas, but road petered out in wash before reaching Monte Grande. To returned to highway, drove north 3? mile, + took Olivaray road to [illegible] (about 7 miles, two turns off to N. into quebrada/hondo). Found site of 1967 camp, a mile below (wof) road into quebrada, a camped under 20-30 ft. mesquite tree. This quebrada is narrower than Parinas, perhaps somewhat drier and was open, but w/ some copal lumber. We saw a flock of parrots. I put up 2 nets + took a Tomapeca bot in evening. Again we had no owls or caprimulgids at night. 4 August 1970. No other catch in nets, except 1 finch (catelog). We again hunted lizards. In afternoon Erik and I took car back to Parinas road, about 1 1/2 mi. E. of paved highway, and set 10 live and 30 snap traps under copas and mesquite lumber on sand hummocks in a desert zone. Between sand hills, ground covered w/ fine broken shells (in form of very coarse sand). Wind prevented good trap setting, + wind petered out 8 p.m. Left traps + returned to Toloca camp. 5 August 1970. Again no catch in nets, the bats seen (one net ripped and apparent Demodex dropping below). Many foxes seen in eve- inging and far. [Went to trap line which held 2 Phyllotis geoffreri and 1 Mus (all in catelog)]. Mus taken under 4' copal brush about 90 yds. from copas + mesquite brush when P.g. taken. Other P.g. was under copal brush (mesquite-like legs). This is first record of Mus + P.g. in same trapline, first month of a 1967 site a few mi. NW of Puna. Good range extension,
