about 9 1/2 mi. before reaching llave - Juli road (2 km. N. of Juli), we
saw hundreds of Andeays wandering, some on 5% slope as well
as on flats. 1/2 mile further on, a small lake to E of road. Then
on down road to Juli. Drove about 2 miles beyond, then turned off
on side road down to lake edge to trap anday borders, brush,
and rock walls. We set 25 live traps + 25 snap traps, hoping
to Andeays alive. Some Indians came & asked usual
questions, but none after 7 p.m. + no dogs.
6 July 1970. Our catch included: P. pictus, + Phyllotric
saurus?, + Chloa rufinervis; saw fruit only. Now breeding.
We departed and drove to Puno. A few miles from Juli we passed area
of red rock formations w. strata nearly vertical; perhaps good
