C. Koford 13 Journal 3 July 1970 Heda Pichipichuni, Depto. Puno, Peru. of flamingos shortly before Puno. Many rock walls + rough huts, to lake shore and up rocky hills, including between vertical rock state. Big army buildings in Puno, and 2 sheds over road at control stations ( but only asked where from and to ). Then on rough dirt road over hills (15 mile out) to level dry grass pampas and to Huacullani. From there, cut back on Juli road 6 km. to Heda. Pichipichuni, where mayordomo Pedro Castillo remembered Pearson's "gondola" and showed us spot, a mile distant, where Pearson camped and found two- two ( "tucaro" bee). We went to site and found the two-two dumours immediately, in short moss - like sink loading area of clumps thick grass, about 100' from river, 100' from a stone coral. A main group of about 45 dumours, w. gray pebbly soil forming mounds or same. 25 yds. W. of them, a group of about 6 dumours. At bunchgrass edge, a few Oturamps dumours which graded into Isola dumours on slightly higher hardin ground, nearen the river. Abundant Isola droppings, and some burrows had been dug out by man. | We set about 35 snap traps near rock walls + outcrop, and on slope in bunchgrass. Camped nearby. 4 July 1970. Cold night, 48° F. Traps held: Calomys, 5 shrder delivieraei, 4 Phylletis dammini, 4 Phylletis subliminae. Last eve I took a live Calomys ? by hand in bunchgrass. Destroyed all but 2 ( list on back of catalog sheet). Warm day, mod. wind, to ½ cloudy. We set 6 stul traps in two dumours by 9 a.m. At least 2 hole showed fresh soil at 5 p. m. yesterday, but no fresh work by 9 a.m. or 12 m., + no catch. We worked on previous specimens: About 3 p.m., two traps found in Oturamps diggings; nest, + about 4 p.m. had one Oturamy. A passing man told me that men workings to N, so I walked 1 km.
