C.Koford 9 Journal 24 June 1970 Alta Calacala, Dpto. Puno, Peru. fernausis (4360 CBK) and put up 2 Phyllotis (his catalog). Llynn C. told us that yesterday afternoon the ranch dogs killed a "gato montez" between here and the "caseros." / Overcast all day. 25 June 1970. Min -30°F. Overcast. The 8 steel traps held 2 Cavia, taken after 1730 yesterday. The 35 live traps set among grass clumps and shot bushes on hillside held 0. Erik took 1 Herpeamphus, a few Akodon boliviensis and P. denmini in his 20+ snap traps. My 10 small live traps took 0. I hiked up canyon about an hour. Slopes covered with crested guenusa seedlings to about 15 ft high. Near streams, moss, ferns, thick grass, and likely Oryzomysshabitat. Later in day I set 31 snap traps in that damper area. Shot a wea and 2 furcatis during the day. Took an Cavia about 11 a.m. 29°F min.temp. 8 0600 24 June 1970. None in 4 Cavia traps 5:30 p.m. yesterday, but one an Akodon boliviensis 0830 in trap 2600, as if long there. Also a P.denmini in steel trap, in thick grass 10' from downslope. My 31 snap traps took 3 Phyllotis, 2 Akodon jelskii, 1 A. boliviensis. Some of discarded mice have probably been P.rasilas, as well as denmini. No catch in did net; moved it to near rock wall busher, near camp where flocks of black and yellow serhinus perch and feed. During day, a flock of 10+ glossy ibises landed in bare earth coral. Took a 9 Cavia with copulation plug between 2:30 and 4 p.m. Breeding in mid-winter! Two have had small embryos, in both Akodon in k. a m P lawn. I Saw 2 A. Abo boliviensis active in mid-afternoon a few feet from base of rock wall. One Akodon jelskii was at base of guenusa tree, near stream; another in hole in red-rock formation. Little overcast today,
