Journal. 23 June 1970 Hcdd, Galacala, Dptz, Puno, Peru. means "pelado pelado" - bare place. many Caria runways and droppings; we set out live traps two in a 60' spaced space grid, 5 wide by 8 long, baiting w. whole grain. Many rocky sets up canyon, as well as quinea lurker, their grass, rock walls. We set about 35 snap traps, and 4 small steel traps in various runways! Flocks of golden and black Sparrow, Swallow, cerulean, furnish, flycatcher. Phrygilus finches, hutias boughs, Lynn saw possible Orconome in burser - chihuahua-like feeding, streaked breast, reddish on head, long bill. Five clear streams about 6' wide. | We set up tent among old rock walls near our Caria grid. Worried at night - clean and cold. No night sounds. We had set up 30' bird net near stream, near Ribes and guinea shrubs. 24 June 19 Two of 5 snap traps near hard tent had an Abrothrix boliviensis by 7 p.m. 24 June 1970. 25° F. min last night. High overcast today. Checked 3 steel traps in Caria runs about 0:00; by 0:00 they held 2 Caria. Then, w/ 8 steel traps set, Took another by H - about 11 a.m. No more though afternoon to 17:30, when nearly dark. Other catches included 7 Phyllostis clarini, 1 Bespermyx, 2 Abrothrix boliviensis in live traps on grid, 1 Abrothrix jelskii in live traps on grid. The grid of 40 traps took only 1 A. jelskii, 2 A. boliviensis. Left traps set until 2 p.m. Then took them up. Evidently Caria does not like to enter their traps. Snap trap line took the other mice. Our bird net took 0. | Erik set about 25 snaps, I set 5 snaps, and 6/10 live traps in Bespermyx area, as well as 40 large live traps on lowe[r]grass slope, seeking an area for population census.
