C. Koford Journal 5 March 1962 Delhi, India Monkeys shifted cage to cage with no cleaning between save sweeping. Upper shelves coated 1/4" thick with old sterment before some monkeys put in. / Men helping to sort load went at 12:45; then they did other job or stood around, so no more action on my job until 2 p.m. Finished sorting only those brought from Taralpur. Delhi 6 March 1962. The men promising to start sorting monkeys at 0900 showed up at 0930 and 1030, but with some flunkups I got started at 0930. Sorted Palia Range monkeys. Many old, or cut up by wounds, so got only 24 out of 56 animals. They marked with clippings of hair or crown. Supposedly from 4 trappers, but now in 5 cages here. / Total held now 108, from 3 localities (Mailani-Kuniga; Palia Range; Taralpur area). 5-5-6 lbs., 2777 4♀♀; 7-12 lbs., 117718♀♀; adults, 157758♀♀. Then, capture of those 5-12 lbs., - all w/o complete dentition - relatively poor. / The 3 biggest 777 from Mailani were put, with 77, in our cage yesterday. Man in charge said they would get along all right after 1/2 hr. Result, too two severely wounded & weak, rejected; the "winner" had gash on arm. Another big 77 repeatedly attacked by 7 - often wounded? - and in bad shape, so removed. Yesterday I ate aborted infant, placenta first then cord, macaw-like. Also one born alive in cage from Taralpur. (Calves still 8 a.m., 8 Feb. Mar.) 7 March 1962. Othermen checked monkeys in cages. Big 7 in our cage, wounded yesterday, had not been removed; died in cage & not out by 0930. / Visited Mr. Rai (H.R.? ) senior at the Veto animal farm in old Delhi. Several deer, only partly walked.
