Delhi, India
food, a talk. A long journey; about 15 hours for 180 mi. | On being T., near Jagir bridge, I saw two or three gulls, with several apparent ? ?, at edge road near river bed. | On outskirts of Delhi, 100+ kips on ground at one site, perhaps a dump. | At Delhi put Taralpur monkeys day in cages; many in poor condition. The Palia animals (taken Feb. 25-Mar. 1 and held at Moidani) arrived yesterday and had many old and decrepit. Actually monkeys I brought at 8 a.m. not taken from small cages until about 4 p.m.
Green made promises by Mr. Kohli that we would examine & sort the animals tomorrow.
March 5, 1962. Ready for monkey sorting at 8 a.m. Not able to get any help until about 10:30, when finally drove men to it. Mr. Kohli arrived 11 a.m. In two hours do got two cages (22 monkeys resultant) selected, & another man removed those under 5 lbs. from other cages. Then all help quit for lunch. Very slow going, though help and idle watchers abundant once we got underway. | A few freehome monkeys on the farm, running free & over tops cages. In last day at least two small men have escaped & have been chased & caught by hand. No nets or similar catching devices. The adults seem much more placid & easily driven to one place or another than Cays I. monkeys. Rejected about 35-40 of first two coger from Khand Taralpur, mainly for old age. Kept some with well-worn molars as mammas & reprod. Again seemed good.
